How to Prepare for Moving Day

Moving day runs more smoothly when the crew can find the right entrance, reach your belongings and understand what needs extra care. This guide covers the practical details to organize before the truck arrives and the checks to make before you leave.

Confirm parking and building access

Check where the truck can stop and how the crew will reach your entrance. For an apartment or office, confirm loading rules, elevator bookings and available hours with building management. Share the instructions with your moving contact in advance, along with a phone number they can reach on the day.

Separate the items that travel with you

Set aside keys, identification, important documents, valuables, chargers and a small overnight bag. Keep these away from the boxes being loaded. Clearly mark anything that is staying at the property, and let the crew know about it during the initial walkthrough.

Make room to move safely

Clear pathways between rooms and the exit. Keep loose cords and small objects out of the way. Arrange for children and pets to stay clear of the loading area. If a doorway, stairwell or piece of furniture needs special attention, point it out before handling begins.

Walk through the inventory with the crew

Show the movers which rooms and storage areas are included. Identify fragile belongings, items requiring disassembly and boxes you will need first. Discuss any changes to the inventory or requested services before work begins so the scope is clear to everyone.

If you are still preparing, our packing checklist and moving volume calculator can help you organize the information to share.

Prepare the destination

Make sure someone can provide access at delivery. Label the rooms and decide where large furniture should go. Keep your moving contact informed of any changes to the address, entrance or building schedule. Have basic cleaning supplies and first-night essentials ready.

Complete a final walkthrough

Before leaving, check closets, cupboards, bathrooms, balconies and storage spaces. At delivery, compare your belongings with your inventory, check their condition and raise any concerns promptly with the team. Keep the moving documents and contact information together for follow-up.
